Description

A pottery course for those who have completed a beginners’ course or who have experience and an understanding of basic ceramic construction methods and processes (including the wheel) and wish to work on their own projects. Participants may develop their ideas and explore the different ways of working with clay in more depth in a supported and creative space. 

This course will be delivered at St Paul’s Learning Centre.

What can students expect?

A creative space in which to develop your ideas and expand your learning of pottery and hand-building techniques. The focus of this course is on self-directed projects with tutor guidance. You will work with earthenware clays and glazes. 

Those who are able to centre clay on a wheel, and who have experience of throwing pieces, will be able to book a timed (20 minute) slot on one of the two pottery wheels in order to develop any clay projects requiring a wheel. (There will be 8 x 20-min slots available per session). Please note that the highest size of pieve we can fire is 25cm.

Late starters allowed?

This is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Learners may re-enrol course by course and continue to build on their experience.

What should students bring?

<li>An apron or old shirt to protect clothing</li>
<li>Hand-cream/moisturiser to apply after the session</li>
<li>Paper and pencil to make notes or sketches</li>
<li>A lidded plastic box to keep your clay in (1 litre size approx.)</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

The tutor will demonstrate and show examples of different techniques to inspire ideas and different ways of working. Participants will be guided and supported in the activities as a group and individually as required.

Refunds and cancellations

<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

 

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
