Description

The summer school encourages a multi-disciplinary approach to working on paper and fabric. The course is intensive, giving the opportunity to become immersed in the process of making and creativity. This course will be delivered at St Paul's Learning Centre

What can students expect?

An immersive week of exploring different printmaking techniques, printing on paper and fabric including:

<li>Monoprint </li>
<li>Block</li>
<li>Relief</li>
<li>Collograph </li>
<li>Stencil screen printing</li>
<li>Printing on paper and fabric.</li>
</ul>

Learners are then encouraged to develop more extended projects, through discussion with the tutor. Both water & oil-based inks are used. There is an etching and relief press available, a proofing press and a collection of vintage wooden and metal letterpress type. Various sizes of silk screens are also available.

The course is suitable for those new to printmaking and experienced artists who want a fresh input into their practice. This course will be delivered at St Paul's Learning Centre

What is the progression route?

Work produced could go towards portfolio for entry into FE & HE courses. It is also possible to make items to sell or exhibit. If printing on fabric, the work will be suitable for clothing, upholstery as well as display.

What should students bring?

<ul>
<li>Basic drawing materials, scissors and sketch or notebook.</li>
<li>A scalpel – ideally Swann Morton with 10A blade.</li>
<li>Apron or equivalent.</li>
</ul>

Learners can come with a completely open mind as to what they will do, or with drawings, photos or other resources as a starting point.

Teaching method/style?

At the start of the week techniques are introduced, then learners are supported on a 1:1 basis. Some learners choose to experiment all week. Others come with a plan; the tutor is happy to discuss plans before the week so learners can prepare.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

 

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
