Description

Summer Schools offer the opportunity to immerse yourself in a medium. This short course is designed for all levels, from the complete beginner wanting to try something new, to the practising artist looking to enliven their practice. Your experienced tutor will work at an appropriate speed to ensure everyone in the group can get the most out of each session. This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge.

What can students expect?

The Summer School will provide a good grounding in watercolour techniques for complete beginners, and a useful review of skills for painters with a little more experience. 

Learners can choose to paint the same picture as the tutor or use their own reference picture which should be related to the theme selected by the tutor. (The tutor will advise the theme and email out reference pictures before the start of the course).

Each session will follow a step-by-step approach with plenty of short demonstrations and individual help as needed. Learners will learn how to create unique paintings with using specific watercolour techniques in an enjoyable and creative environment. This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by 2nd session especially if you are a beginner.

Previous experience required?

No, it is for all levels.

What is the progression route?

Learners can progress to weekly watercolour courses or Saturday workshops at Stoke Lodge to develop their skills and confidence.

Work set between sessions?

It is optional.

What should students bring?

<li>Watercolour brushes </li>
<li>Watercolour paper (Cold Press (NOT) 300g/m² - 140lb recommended)</li>
<li>Watercolour paper to be stretched on wooden board, with reference picture already transferred/sketched on it and ready to paint.</li>
<li>Gummed tape (water activated)</li>
<li>Sponge</li>
<li>Drawing pencil (2H)</li>
<li>Eraser </li>
<li>A4 colour copy of reference picture</li>
<li>Water jar</li>
<li>Spray bottle</li>

Teaching method/style?

The tutor will demonstrate ‘How’, and ‘Why’ various techniques are used from the palette to the paper depending on the subject matter and the desired effects. Every stroke is shown and explained in real time.

Refunds and cancellations

<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
