Description

Intensive, yet relaxed Summer School helping you develop your oil painting skills. The tutor will provide a range of prints for you to choose from, or you can bring your own projects.This course will take place at Stoke Lodge.

What can students expect?

Learners can tailor-make their experience by selecting projects which meet their particular interests. Projects covering a wide range of subject matter including portraits, landscapes and still life will also be provided if you are looking for inspiration. The tutor will explain and demonstrate techniques to help you get the most out of the class. This will be a fun, interesting and friendly Summer School. This course will take place at Stoke Lodge.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short Summer School, so it is best to join by the second session to benefit in full.

Previous experience required?

Yes. This is for experienced oil painters.

What is the progression route?

Learners can progress to weekly oil painting improvers courses or Saturday workshops at Stoke Lodge to develop their skills and confidence.

Work set between sessions?

No

What should students bring?

<ul>
<li>Odourless paint thinner such as Zest It or Sansodor.</li>
<li>Linseed oil, Liquin or another painting medium.</li>
<li>A selection of brushes of various sizes. You can buy singles or multipacks with a variety of sizes in.</li>
<li>An A3 pad of oil painting paper.</li>
<li>Two dippers or small jam jars.</li>
<li>Oil colours. You can buy sets with a variety of colours in but if buying separately the colours I use and recommend are:

<li>Titanium White</li>
<li>Yellow Ochre</li>
<li>Cadmium Yellow Light</li>
<li>Cadmium Red Light</li>
<li>Alizarin Crimson</li>
<li>Burnt Sienna</li>
<li>Burnt Umber</li>
<li>Viridian Green</li>
<li>Cerulean Blue</li>
<li>Ultramarine Blue</li>
<li>Ivory Black</li>
</ul>

If you are not sure what brand to buy for brushes and colours the tutor recommends the Winton range by Windsor & Newton as a good quality range for beginners. Also, the Georgian range by Daler Rowney.

Teaching method/style?

The tutor will provide personal critiques for students as they work with demonstrations as appropriate or needed.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
