Description

You will come away with a solid understanding of everything needed to get started in this exciting painting medium.

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary using ZOOM.

What can students expect?

Oil painting can be confusing for the beginner painter. What colours to buy? When to use paint thinner? How and when to use painting mediums? 

All these questions and many more will be answered in this course. 

The tutor will lead you through carefully selected paintings in a variety of subject matter including still life and landscapes. 

He will demonstrate every step of the way so that the teaching is as clear as can be. This will be a fun, interesting and friendly class.

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary using ZOOM.

Possibly Oil Painting For Improvers or Oil Painting Mixed Ability class in the future.

Work set between sessions?

Work is not set between sessions, but practice is encouraged.

What should students bring?

To the first session, please bring:

<ul>
<li>Odourless paint thinner such as Zest It or Sansodor.</li>
<li>Linseed oil, Liquin or another painting medium.</li>
<li>A selection of brushes of various sizes. You can buy singles or multipacks with a variety of sizes in.</li>
<li>An A3 pad of oil painting paper.</li>
<li>Two dippers or small jam jars.</li>
<li>Oil colours. You can buy sets with a variety of colours in but if buying separately the colours I use and recommend are:

<li> Titanium White</li>
<li>Yellow Ochre</li>
<li>Cadmium Yellow Light</li>
<li>Cadmium Red Light</li>
<li>Alizarin Crimson</li>
<li>Burnt Sienna</li>
<li>Burnt Umber</li>
<li>Viridian Green</li>
<li>Cerulean Blue</li>
<li>Ultramarine Blue</li>
<li>Ivory Black</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

If you are not sure what brand to buy for brushes and colours the tutor recommends the Winton range by Windsor & Newton as a good quality range for beginners. Also, the Georgian range by Daler Rowney. 

Stable internet connection, a PC or tablet and ability to use ZOOM if course moves online.

The tutor demonstrates every step of the process and provides feedback to learners throughout to help them develop their knowledge and skills.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

 

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
