Description

Join us for a thought-provoking introduction to some of the world’s major faith traditions. This course explores how religions began, what their followers believe, and how they continue to influence cultures, communities and everyday life today.

What can students expect?

Each week, you will focus on a different world religion, using this as a starting point to explore wider questions about belief, identity and meaning. You will encounter a rich range of ideas, from the meditative practices of Buddhism to concepts of divine love, moral guidance and the nature of the self across different traditions. Along the way, you will consider how religions adapt and respond to the modern world, including issues such as diversity, globalisation and changing beliefs.

Sessions are friendly, inclusive and discussion-based, combining tutor guidance with group activities, reflection and shared ideas. You will be encouraged to ask questions, explore different perspectives, and connect learning to your own experiences. 

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in religion, culture or society. No previous knowledge is needed – just curiosity and an open mind.

What is the progression route?

Other religious studies courses such as – Philosophy of religion, Sacred texts (e.g. in Latin and Greek) and their history and translations or contemporary issues in faith and belief.

If we cancel your course

If you cancel

<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>
</ul>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
