Description

A welcoming and creative mixed media course for learners of all abilities, helping participants explore a range of materials and techniques, build confidence through experimentation and skill development, and create finished artwork using paint, collage, texture and composition with supportive tutor guidance.

What can students expect?

Learners can expect a welcoming, supportive and creative environment where experimentation is encouraged. Through practical activities, demonstrations and guided exploration, you will explore a range of mixed media materials and techniques, including painting, collage, drawing, mark-making, texture and layering. 

You will build confidence in using colour, composition and mixed media processes while developing your own creative approach and producing original artwork. Opportunities for discussion and reflection will support your artistic growth and personal expression. 

By the end of the course, you will have created one or more finished mixed media pieces, expanded your knowledge of materials and techniques, and gained confidence in planning, developing and refining your artwork.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Previous experience required?

No. This course is designed for beginners and improvers. Guidance, demonstrations, and individual support will be provided throughout, allowing learners to work at their own pace while exploring a range of mixed media techniques.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol the following term or enrol on other art courses at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Fee includes some materials and equipment, with learners supplying additional items.

Work set between sessions?

No formal homework is set, although learners may wish to gather inspiration, references or materials between sessions. Any activities outside class are entirely optional.

What should students bring?

<li>A3 sketchbook or folder for storing work</li>
<li>A3 or A4 cartridge paper</li>
<li>Acrylic paints (a small set is sufficient) and a selection of brushes</li>
<li>PVA glue or matte medium</li>
<li>Glue stick, scissors, eraser</li>
<li>Drawing pencils (a range of hard and soft graphite grades)</li>
<li>Black fine liner pen, white gel pen (optional but recommended)</li>
<li>Apron or old shirt</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Demonstrations, guided activities, experimentation, and 1 to 1 tuition in a relaxed environment.

<li>Fabric scraps, lace, thread, ribbon, or textiles</li>

Course Cancellations and Refunds

If we cancel your course

<li>You will receive a full refund of course fees.</li>
<li>We are not responsible for any additional costs, such as materials already purchased.</li>

If you cancel

<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<ul>
<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>
</ul>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>

Illness and non-attendance
