Description

An introduction to the craft of silversmithing offering a good foundation in working with silver. Enrolments for our silversmithing courses and workshops close 7 days before start date to allow tutor to order silver. Book early to avoid disappointment.

What can students expect?

This hands-on course introduces learners to the essential techniques and skills needed to create beautiful handmade jewellery from start to finish. 

Working with a range of hand and bench tools, you will learn key jewellery-making processes including metal cutting, soldering, shaping, and finishing. Guided by an experienced jeweller, you will receive step-by-step demonstrations, practical guidance, and ongoing individual support throughout the course. 

You will have plenty of creative freedom to develop your own designs and will work closely with your tutor to plan and make your jewellery pieces. By the end of the course, you can expect to have created at least two or three unique silver jewellery items, including a ring and either a pendant or a pair of earrings.

Previous experience required?

No. This course is ideal for beginners, or anyone interested in developing practical jewellery-making skills.

What is the progression route?

Learners can enrol on other silversmithing or “Silversmithing And Stone Setting” courses at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

No. Fee includes silver, materials and equipment. However, if learners wish to create larger pieces or more unusual designs, additional silver may need to be ordered and paid for. This can be discussed and arranged with the tutor during the course.

Work set between sessions?

Researching other jewellers and design ideas would be beneficial but not compulsory.

What should students bring?

<li>Please wear shoes with toes covered-no sandals or flipflops</li>
<li>Reading glasses if worn</li>
<li>Long hair to be tied back during some of the making processes</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Each stage of the process is demonstrated, with individual support provided as needed, alongside opportunities for discussion and reflection to develop ideas and skills.

Course Cancellations and Refunds

If we cancel your course

<li>You will receive a full refund of course fees.</li>
<li>We are not responsible for any additional costs, such as materials already purchased.</li>

If you cancel

<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<ul>
<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>
</ul>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days’ notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
