Description

An opportunity to explore printmaking and its many techniques in a supportive and stimulating group.

What can students expect?

In the initial sessions, you will be introduced to a range of techniques, including:

<ul>
<li>Monoprinting</li>
<li>Block printing</li>
<li>Relief printing</li>
<li>Collograph</li>
<li>Stencil screen printing</li>
<li>Printing on both paper and fabric</li>
</ul>

You will be encouraged to develop extended projects through discussions with the tutor. The course offers progressive learning, with one-to-one support for returning students to explore their ideas and working methods. Both water- and oil-based inks are used, with access to etching and relief presses, as well as silk screens. The course is suitable for both newcomers to printmaking and experienced artists seeking fresh input into their practice. This course will be delivered at St Paul's Learning Centre.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Previous experience required?

No.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol in the following terms or enrol on the “Printmaking & Surface Design Summer School”. Work produced can contribute to portfolios for entry into FE and HE courses. Additionally, it is possible to create items for sale or exhibition. If printing on fabric, the work will be suitable for clothing, upholstery, and display.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Fee includes core materials; in addition, learners can purchase specialist paper from the tutor if they wish. If interested in using thermofax screens, images can be created by the tutor for a fee, depending on size.

Work set between sessions?

No, but learners often opt to prepare work between sessions.

What should students bring?

<li>Apron or old shirt to protect your clothes</li>
<li>Please bring own refreshments </li>
</ul>

Learners can come with a completely open mind as to what they will do, or with drawings photos or other resources to use as a starting point.

Teaching method/style?

Learners explore new techniques in each session, with tutor support to experiment or create more refined pieces.

If you cancel

<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<ul>
<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>
</ul>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
