Description

A creative and relaxed course exploring dry point etching. Perfect for all skill levels.

What can students expect?

You will learn how to create etchings by tracing images onto plastic sheets, inking them, and using a printing press to produce your artwork.

Experiment with mark-making techniques to transform photos of meaningful places, pets, or your own abstract designs into striking prints. You will also explore alternative materials like Tetra Pak. If you wish, you can further develop your prints by adding colour.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course so it would be best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

No. Suitable for both beginners and those with some experience.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol the following term or join the “Creative Lino Printing” course at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

No. Fee includes materials.

Work set between sessions?

The tutor will suggest ways to plan design ideas or do some visual research to help learners get the most out of future sessions—but there’s no pressure, and nothing is compulsory.

What should students bring?

<li>If you have photographs (A5 size max), please bring them. Other options will be available if you don't. The printing process flips your image, so if orientation matters (e.g., numbers or recognizable places), flip it before printing. You can easily do this on your phone by going to 'edit,' then 'crop and flip’</li>
<li>It is advisable to wear old clothes, as you will be using inks, and to perhaps bring an apron</li>
<li>An enthusiasm to make lovely work!</li>

Teaching method/style?

The tutor will demonstrate each stage of the process and offer one-to-one support as needed. She will also encourage ongoing discussion and reflection on learners’ work—celebrating successes and exploring ideas for improvement.

Equipment Required

Materials are provided. You might want to add colour to some of your prints, so some water colour paints, or colouring pencils might be useful.

Cancellations by You

• If you cancel 7 days or more before the course start date: Refund issued minus a 20% administration fee.

• If you cancel less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: No refund will be issued.

Transfers

• Transfers must be requested at least 7 days before the course start date.

• A 10% transfer fee applies.

• Transfers due to our cancellation of your original course are free of charge.

Illness and Absence

• No refunds are available for non-attendance due to sickness or ill health.
