Description

A 5-day summer school ideal for learners of all abilities who want to explore a variety of printmaking techniques on both paper and fabric. The course encourages a multidisciplinary approach and offers a unique opportunity to become fully immersed in the creative process with expert tutor support.

What can students expect?

Guided by an experienced tutor and print artist, you will explore and experiment with a range of printmaking techniques on paper and fabric, including:

<li>Monoprinting</li>
<li>Block printing</li>
<li>Relief printing</li>
<li>Collograph</li>
<li>Stencil screen printing</li>
</ul>

You will be encouraged to develop extended projects through ongoing discussions with the tutor. Both water- and oil-based inks are used throughout the course. Facilities include an etching and relief press, a proofing press, and a collection of vintage wooden and metal letterpress type. A range of silk screens in various sizes is also available. This course is ideal for both newcomers to printmaking and experienced artists looking to refresh or expand their practice in a supportive, creative environment. This course will be delivered at St Paul's Learning Centre.

What is the progression route?

Work produced can contribute to portfolios for entry into FE and HE courses. Additionally, it is possible to create items for sale or exhibition. If printing on fabric, the work will be suitable for clothing, upholstery, and display.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Fee includes core materials; in addition, learners can purchase specialist paper from the tutor if they wish. If interested in using riso screens, images can be created by the tutor for a fee, depending on size.

Work set between sessions?

No.

What should students bring?

<li>Basic drawing materials, scissors and sketch or notebook</li>
<li>Scalpel – ideally Swann Morton with 10A blade</li>
<li>Apron or equivalent</li>
<li>Lunch and refreshments. There is a café on site if preferred</li>
</ul>

Learners can come with a completely open mind as to what they will do, or with drawings, photos or other resources to use as a starting point.

Teaching method/style?

The week begins with technique demonstrations, followed by one-to-one support. Learners may experiment or follow a personal project. The tutor is happy to discuss plans in advance.

<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>

Refund processing

<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>

Transfers
