Description

A welcoming and creative printmaking course for learners of all abilities, helping participants develop essential monotype and intaglio printing skills, explore a range of printmaking techniques and processes, build confidence through experimentation and creative expression, and create unique handcrafted prints with supportive tutor guidance.

What can students expect?

Learners will create striking etchings using non-toxic printmaking techniques. 

You will learn how to prepare and mark a variety of surfaces, apply printing ink, and use a printing press to produce multiple prints. 

You will explore a range of mark-making and monoprinting techniques, using photographs of favourite places, pets, or other personal images as inspiration, while developing creative printmaking skills through experimentation.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Previous experience required?

No. Suitable for both beginners and those with experience.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol the following term or join the “Lino Printing” or other printmaking courses and workshops at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

No. Fee includes materials and equipment.

Work set between sessions?

The tutor may suggest ways to develop design ideas or undertake visual research to enhance future sessions, though this is entirely optional.

What should students bring?

<li>Old clothes or an apron, as inks will be used</li>
<li>Photographs (maximum A5 size) if desired; alternative images will be available. As the printing process reverses the image, photographs containing text, numbers, or recognisable landmarks should be flipped beforehand using 'edit,' then 'crop and flip’ functions on mobile, tablet</li>
<li>A willingness to experiment and create</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Each stage of the process is demonstrated, with individual support provided as needed, alongside opportunities for discussion and reflection to develop ideas and skills.

Equipment Required

See list above. In addition, learners wanting to experiment with colour are welcome to bring watercolour paints, or colouring pencils.

<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>

Refund processing

<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>

Transfers

<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>

<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days’ notice, subject to availability.</li>
