Bookbinding 6: Multi-Section Bindings

Multi-section books introduce greater complexity, strength and versatility, creating volumes that feel substantial in both form and function. Change the sewing structure, alter the covering materials, vary the format, and the character of the book shifts entirely. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:16px">This term explores the creative potential of multi-section bookbinding, from elegant soft-bound books to durable hard-bound volumes designed to be used and treasured for years to come. Through practical, hands-on sessions, learners will develop bookbinding skills while working with paper, board, cloth and covering materials, discovering how multiple sections come together to create larger and more robust books. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:16px">Traditional techniques provide the foundation, with plenty of opportunities to experiment with materials, proportions and construction methods while creating books that are thoughtful, substantial and built to last. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:16px">Some weeks you will leave with one beautifully finished book; others you will make several in quick succession depending on the simplicity or complexity of the format. </span></p>
