Description

A creative and reflective course exploring the use of sketching, painting, collage and written expression to develop a unique and personal artist journal.

What can students expect?

A creative and reflective course that combines artistic exploration with personal expression, encouraging the development of a unique visual journal. 

Through the process of recording thoughts, memories and experiences, you will explore a range of creative techniques and media, including sketching, watercolour and mixed-media collage. 

You will learn practical methods for creating rich textures and layered pages, integrating meaningful text, hand lettering and captions, and developing visually engaging journal layouts. The course provides a supportive, pressure-free environment in which to experiment, build confidence and develop a regular creative practice. 

Along the way, you will discover strategies for overcoming creative blocks while cultivating a personal artistic voice and creating a lasting record of creative growth and reflection.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

No.

Other art or creative writing courses at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners provide their own materials and equipment.

Work set between sessions?

No, but practice is encouraged.

What should students bring?

<li>Blank journal-hardbound sketchbook or a mixed-media notebook with at least 140 lb/300 gsm paper if using wet media like watercolours</li>
<li>Watercolour half-pan pocket or travel set</li>
<li>Brushes</li>
<li>Crayons</li>
<li>Pencils - assorted HB 2B to 6B for example</li>
<li>Black pens</li>
<li>Felt tip pens</li>
</ul>

If we cancel your course

If you cancel

<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days’ notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
