Description

An exploration of embroidery and textile art through diverse stitches and techniques using traditional and alternative materials.

What can students expect?

You will explore the potential of embroidery and textile art by taking inspiration from a different colour or artwork each week, focusing on a particular stitch technique and its possibilities. Our experienced tutor and textile artist will demonstrate fabric preparation techniques such as painting, printing, felt making, foiling, and using silk fibres. You will learn to make basic stitches and their variations using a variety of beautiful threads, many sourced by the tutor.

Late starters allowed?

Yes.

Previous experience required?

No. This is a welcoming group where experienced learners are eager to help and share with beginners.

What is the progression route?

Continual development and personal projects are encouraged within the group. Learners may also want to enrol on specialised Saturday courses and other printmaking and sewing courses at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. A small charge for specialist materials (approximately £10 for the course) is payable to the tutor. Please bring cash.

What should students bring?

<li>Embroidery or crewel needles (large eye, sharp point)</li>
<li>Stranded embroidery thread in your favourite colours (1of each light, medium and dark shade)</li>
<li>Scissors for fabric and paper</li>
<li>Notebook and pen </li>
<li>Reading glasses if worn</li>
<li>Plain cotton or linen</li>
<li>Embroidery hoop 6”- 8” if you have one</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Practical demonstrations, show and tell student encouragement (everyone shares and learns from each other’s experiments in a supportive way).

Cancellations by You

<li>If you cancel 7 days or more before the course start date: Refund issued minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>If you cancel less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: No refund will be issued.</li>

Transfers

<li>Transfers must be requested at least 7 days before the course start date.</li>
<li>A 10% transfer fee applies.</li>
<li>Transfers due to our cancellation of your original course are free of charge.</li>

Illness and Absence
