Description

Botanical printing is used to create delicate images of leaves and flowers onto fabric. Using foliage from Stoke Lodge and some garden flowers we will explore two ways of transferring plant images onto fabric before using stitches to enhance the prints.

What can students expect?

We will try two botanical printing methods: “Hapa Zome” and fabric paint. Hapa Zome uses a hammer to crush the dyes out of the plants while the other method uses fabric paint applied to the plants. In the afternoon you will use freemotion machine stitch to enhance your prints. An introduction to freemotion machine stitch will be given if you are new to it and hand stitch is also possible if you prefer.

This course will be delivered at Soke Lodge.

No. Suitable for beginners or those with experience wanting to try something new.

Further courses in stitching or embroidery at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. A small charge for materials and paints of no more than £5 payable to the tutor. Please bring cash.

What should students bring?

<ul>
<li>Sewing machine. Please ensure it is in good working order</li>
<li>Threads (green, pink, white and any other colours you like) and pre-wound bobbins</li>
<li>Freemotion foot (also known as darning or embroidery foot)</li>
<li>A hammer</li>
<li>Garden flowers and leaves if you have any</li>
<li>Plain cotton fabric e.g. old sheet to practise on</li>
<li>Vilene backing fabric e.g. “stitch and tear” or medium weight interfacing</li>
<li>Embroidery hoop 6"- 8” if you have one</li>
</ul>

The tutor will provide rollers, sponge and fabric paint, however, if you have a printing roller please bring it.

Refunds and cancellations

<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
