Description

A welcoming and creative embroidery course for learners of all abilities, helping participants explore a range of stitches and techniques, build confidence, and develop individual textile art projects with supportive tutor guidance.

What can students expect?

You will explore the creative possibilities of embroidery and textile art through a range of stitches, techniques, and materials. 

Drawing inspiration from different colours, themes, and artworks, you will develop your skills while creating your own textile pieces. An experienced tutor and textile artist will demonstrate fabric preparation techniques, including painting, printing, felt-making, foiling, and the use of silk fibres. 

You will learn a variety of embroidery stitches and their variations, working with a selection of threads and materials provided by the tutor.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Previous experience required?

No. This is a welcoming group where experienced learners are eager to help and share with beginners.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol the following term or enrol on specialist Saturday workshops and other textile courses, including printmaking and sewing, at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. A small materials fee (approximately £10 for the course) is payable directly to the tutor to cover specialist materials. Please bring cash.

Work set between sessions?

No. However, as embroidery and textile work can be time-consuming, learners are welcome to continue their projects between sessions if they wish. A supportive and informal ‘show and tell’ is encouraged, with no pressure.

What should students bring?

<li>Embroidery/crewel needles (large eye, sharp)</li>
<li>Stranded embroidery thread (light, medium, dark shades)</li>
<li>Fabric and paper scissors</li>
<li>Notebook and pen</li>
<li>Reading glasses (if worn)</li>
<li>Plain cotton or linen</li>
<li>6–8” embroidery hoop (if available)</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Practical demonstrations, learner ‘show and tell’, and opportunities to share ideas and learn from others in a supportive environment.

If we cancel your course

If you cancel

<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>
</ul>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
