Description

Develop your skill at drawing or painting faces with an experienced portraiture tutor and artist.

What can students expect?

You will be drawing or painting from a different, clothed sitter each week. You may use any drawing medium you prefer including charcoal, pastels, or crayons. If you are a confident fast painter, you may use paint (watercolour or acrylics can be used in the spirit of drawing). 

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

Some previous experience of drawing from observation is recommended.

What is the progression route?

Other drawing courses or Painting Portraits from Photographs.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Model fee of £36 for the course to be paid to the tutor during first session.

Work set between sessions?

No. But the tutor will give feedback on anything learners may choose to do between sessions.

What should students bring?

To the 1st session, please bring:

<li>2 or 3 sheets of A3 white drawing paper or a sketch pad</li>
<li>Pencil, charcoal or graphite stick</li>
<li>Eraser</li>
<li>Masking-tape or drawing clips or bull-dog clips</li>
<li>Model fee of £36 in cash</li>
</ul>

Most learners use a drawing board on an easel or table-easel, both of which will be provided.

Teaching method/style?

Through practice, with guidance. There will also be short demonstrations, guidelines about the structure of faces and plenty of help from the tutor.

You will also learn from the work of your fellow learners!

Acrylic or watercolour paints. Useful colours for mixing skin-shades are Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Raw Umber & Orange

Coloured pencils/crayon

Stable internet connection, a PC or tablet and ability to use ZOOM if the course moves online.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
<li>
If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
