Description

Practise drawing from a live model each week with a choice of drawing materials.

What can students expect?

Working from a different model each week (clothed, nude and portrait), you will develop skills in drawing figures and faces, their shape and proportions, light and shade. You will use a range of traditional drawing media and explore various approaches and techniques. The tutor will sometimes give an initial short demonstration, especially when you embark on using an unfamiliar technique. The models’ poses will be of longer duration than most of those in Bill’s Life Drawing courses. This course is suitable for people who have done a little drawing from life before.

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

Yes, some experience of drawing from live observation is recommended.

What is the progression route?

Other drawing courses.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Model fee of £36 for the course to be paid in cash to the tutor during first session.

Work set between sessions?

No, but work can be set if requested.

What should students bring?

To the first session, please bring: 

<ul>
<li>Several sheets of A3 and A2 white drawing paper, or an A2 sketch pad</li>
<li>An average pencil (e.g. HB, B) </li>
<li>An eraser</li>
<li>A few sticks of charcoal (ordinary willow charcoal rather than processed charcoal)</li>
</ul>

OR a 2B graphite stick (the chunky type, not the plastic-coated pencil-shaped ones) 

<ul>
<li>A pencil-sharpener or knife</li>
<li>Masking-tape or drawing clips or bull-dog clips</li>
<li>Model fee of £36 in cash</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Through practice, with guidance and feedback. There will also be short demonstrations and plenty of help from the tutor. You will also learn from the work of your fellow learners!

Equipment Required

Optional extras: you might sometimes like to bring:

<ul>
<li>A biro/ball-point or fine-tip black pen</li>
<li>Coloured sugar-paper (to use with white chalk, pastels or charcoal)</li>
<li>Coloured pastels or Conté crayons</li>
<li>Coloured water-soluble pencils</li>
<li>A tube of black, white and brown water-based paint</li>
<li>A couple of brushes (1 fine pointed-for lines, 1 broad-for areas)</li>
</ul>

Anything else you feel like drawing with.

Stable internet connection, a PC or tablet and ability to use ZOOM if the course moves online.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
