Description

Learn to draw the human figure from observation.

What can students expect?

Develop skill at drawing the human figure. Drawing from a nude model (female and male), you will learn to see shape, proportion, light and shade more objectively. There will be some short demonstrations and support/advice from the tutor. You will use a range of traditional drawing media and explore various approaches and techniques. You will be encouraged to vary your ways of drawing and develop confidence in your own "hand-writing".

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

Some experience of drawing from observation will be advantageous, but not essential if you feel confident to have a go.

What is the progression route?

Other drawing/painting courses.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Model fee of £36 (for 6-week course) or £31 (for 5-week course) to be paid in cash to the tutor during first session.

Work set between sessions?

No.

What should students bring?

To the first session, please bring:

<ul>
<li>Several sheets of A3 and A2 white drawing paper, or an A2 sketch pad</li>
<li>An average pencil (e.g. HB, B) </li>
<li> An eraser </li>
<li>A pencil-sharpener or knife</li>
<li> A few sticks of charcoal – ordinary willow charcoal rather than processed charcoal </li>
<li>One 'fat/chunky' 2B graphite stick (not the plastic-coated, pencil-shaped type)</li>
<li> Masking-tape or drawing clips or bull-dog clips</li>
<li>Model fee of £36 (for 6-week course) or £31 (for 5-week course) in cash</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Through practice, with guidance. There will also be short demonstrations and plenty of help from the tutor. You will also learn from the work of your fellow learners!

Equipment Required

Optional extras: you might sometimes like to bring:

<ul>
<li>A biro/ball-point or gel pen</li>
<li>Coloured sugar-paper (nice to use with white chalk, pastels or charcoal)</li>
<li>Coloured pencil, crayon, pastel or Conté</li>
<li>Anything else you feel like drawing with </li>
</ul>

Stable internet connection, a PC or tablet and ability to use ZOOM if the course moves online.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

 

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
