Description

A welcoming and creative drawing course for learners of all abilities, helping participants explore a range of materials and techniques, build confidence through experimentation and skill development, and create finished artwork with supportive tutor guidance.

What can students expect?

Learners will enjoy a structured yet relaxed introduction to drawing, exploring a range of materials including pencils, biros, felt pens, charcoal and drawing inks. 

Beginning with observational and continuous line drawing, you will develop skills in mark-making, tonal shading, texture studies and expressive techniques. 

Through themes such as still life, botanicals, pattern, texture, light and shadow, you will build confidence in recording what you see and responding creatively to different subjects. 

Step-by-step demonstrations, guided activities and individual support will help you develop control, experiment with materials and refine your personal style. By the end of the course, you will have created a portfolio of drawings and one or more finished pieces.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session as the first session introduces key drawing techniques, materials, and approaches that provide the foundation for the rest of the course.

Previous experience required?

No. This course is suitable for beginners as well as those with some drawing experience who would like to develop their skills, explore a variety of materials and techniques, and gain confidence in their creative practice.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol the following term or enrol on other art courses at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Fee includes some materials and equipment, with learners supplying additional items.

Work set between sessions?

No formal homework set. Optional sketching and practice between sessions can help support skill development and creative confidence.

What should students bring?

<li>A3 sketchbook</li>
<li>Graphite pencils (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B or similar)</li>
<li>Black and coloured biros, black fine liner pen</li>
<li>Felt-tip pens (a range of colours)</li>
<li>White gel pen</li>
<li>Eraser, pencil sharpener, scissors, a range of brushes</li>
<li>A4 or A3 cartridge paper</li>
<li>
Optional:
</li>
<li>Coloured pencils, glue stick</li>
<li>A folder or portfolio for storing work</li>
<li>Apron or old shirt</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Demonstrations, guided activities, experimentation, and 1 to 1 tuition in a relaxed environment.

Course Cancellations and Refunds

If we cancel your course

<li>You will receive a full refund of course fees.</li>
<li>We are not responsible for any additional costs, such as materials already purchased.</li>

If you cancel

<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>

Refund processing

<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
