Description

A course designed for both beginners and experienced learners who wish to deepen their understanding and skills in the medium.

What can students expect?

Led by an experienced tutor, beginners will learn traditional oil painting methods, while those with some experience will develop their existing skills. Learners will work on individual projects, building confidence and ability throughout the term.

Late starters allowed?

Yes.

Previous experience required?

No. No matter your starting point, this course is designed to help you grow in skill and confidence.

What is the progression route?

Learners progress at their own pace, continuing from one term to the next..

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners supply own materials. Occasional model fee (optional).

Work set between sessions?

No.

What should students bring?

Please bring the following items to your first session. Where possible, avoid very cheap products, as they can affect your results.

Paints
</li>
<li>Student-quality oil paints (e.g., Daler Rowney or Winsor & Newton)</li>
<li>A selection of colours including:</li>
<li>
Reds, Blues, Yellows, Raw or Burnt Umber, White

Brushes
</li>
<li>Bristle brushes (not nylon)</li>
<li>A variety of round and flat brushes in different sizes, including some large ones</li>
</ul>

Palette

Must be flat. Options: tear-off palette pad, traditional wooden palette, or a large smooth bathroom tile

Other Tools & Materials

<li>Metal palette knife with a triangular blade</li>
<li>Canvas (stretched, board, or pad – avoid very cheap options)</li>
<li>Turpentine (turps)</li>
<li>Liquin (preferably “Fine Detail”)</li>
<li>Masking tape</li>
<li>Cotton rags</li>
<li>Kitchen roll</li>
<li>Baby wipes</li>
<li>Glass jar with a screw-top lid</li>
<li>Paper clips or bulldog clips</li>
<li>Apron or old shirt to protect your clothes

Teaching method/style?

Beginners will follow a step-by-step process before creating their own paintings. Advanced learners will discuss their work's progression and pursue their goals. An iPad is useful for curating albums of admired artwork and gathering images from the internet.

Refunds and cancellations

Course Cancellations by Us

• If we cancel your course, your fees will be refunded in full.

• We cannot reimburse the cost of any materials you may have purchased.

Cancellations by You

• If you cancel 7 days or more before the course start date: Refund issued minus a 20% administration fee.

• If you cancel less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: No refund will be issued.

Transfers

• Transfers must be requested at least 7 days before the course start date.

• A 10% transfer fee applies.

• Transfers due to our cancellation of your original course are free of charge.

Illness and Absence

• No refunds are available for non-attendance due to sickness or ill health.

How Refunds Are Issued

• Refunds are returned via the original payment method:

• Booked online or by phone - Refund to the card used.

• Paid in person at Stoke Lodge - Please bring your payment card to the office.

Online Course Access

• Learners are responsible for ensuring they have suitable internet access and equipment before the course begins.

• No refunds will be issued due to technical issues with a learner’s own internet or computer.
