Description

Learn how to create impactful designs using the relief printing process of Linocut. The satisfying technique of carving into this soft material before printing its surface is suitable for beginners and improvers alike

What can students expect?

We will experiment with a range of mark-making techniques in lino cutting. You will be shown different ways to introduce colour into your designs including using ‘reduction’ techniques and the use of papier collé to achieve a series of striking Lino prints.

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course so it would be best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

No.

What is the progression route?

This course is an introduction to Lino printing. Learners can progress by joining another printing course in Dry-Point Etching at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

No, fee includes materials.

Work set between sessions?

Suggestions will be made for planning design ideas or creating visual research to maximise progress on the following sessions, but nothing compulsory will be set.

What should students bring?

<li>We’ll be using ink, so wear old clothes and perhaps bring an apron</li>
<li>Visual research in the form of drawings, or photographs of your favourite subjects to develop into prints</li>
<li>An enthusiasm to experiment and make lovely work!</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Your tutor will demonstrate each stage of the process and one-to-one additional support will be offered where necessary. Ongoing assessment and discussion about the works successes and ideas for improvement will be encouraged by the tutor.

Equipment Required

Learners might want to experiment with printing onto a range of different paper, or collage backgrounds. This will be discussed, but if learners have paper they’d like to use, they’re welcome to bring it along.

Refunds and cancellations

<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

 

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
