Description

This course is designed for intermediate learners looking to improve their watercolour skills and transition into more advanced techniques. Learners will refine their understanding of colour theory, brushwork, and various watercolour methods to create stunning, expressive paintings.

What can students expect?

Learners will enjoy a blend of hands-on exercises, demonstrations, and group critiques that promote growth and creativity. They will explore various watercolour techniques, such as wet-on-wet, glazing, and dry brushing while gaining a deeper understanding of essential concepts like colour theory, composition, and perspective.

Learners will engage in thematic projects that encourage the development of personal style and artistic expression. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to connect with other aspiring watercolour artists, exchanging insights and experiences in a collaborative environment. By the end of the course, learners will have enhanced their watercolour skills and increased confidence in their artistic abilities. 

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

Learners should have prior experience with watercolour painting. They may have completed a beginners’ course or have basic skills in watercolour painting.

What is the progression route?

Learners can enrol on Ellie's weekly courses or Saturday workshops to develop skills and confidence.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners supply own materials.

Work set between sessions?

There is no homework set specifically, but the tutor may provide feedback on anything learners choose to do between sessions.

What should students bring?

<li>Watercolour brushes </li>
<li>Watercolour paper (Cold Press (NOT) 300g/m² - 140lb recommended) stretched on wooden board and reference picture already transferred/sketched on it and ready to paint</li>
<li>Gummed tape (water activated)</li>
<li>Sponge</li>
<li>Drawing pencil (2H)</li>
<li>Eraser </li>
<li>A4 colour copy of reference picture</li>
<li>Water jar</li>
<li>Spray bottle</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Interactive and hands-on; emphasizing active participation, experimentation, and collaboration. Key components include live demonstrations, practice-based exercises, individual and group critiques, thematic projects, and collaborative learning. This approach fosters an engaging and supportive environment, allowing learners to develop their skills, explore personal style, and grow as artists.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
