Description

The course is designed for both beginners and experienced learners who wish to delve deeper into the medium.

What can students expect?

Led by an experienced tutor, beginners will be guided through traditional methods of using oil paints, while those with some experience will be encouraged to develop existing skills. Learners will work on individual projects and will develop confidence and ability throughout the term.

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move ONLINE if necessary.

Late starters allowed?

Yes.

Previous experience required?

No. Whatever your starting point the course aims to facilitate improvement and extend ability and confidence.

What is the progression route?

Learners progress at their own pace - this continues from one term to the next.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners supply own materials. Occasional model fee (optional).

Work set between sessions?

No.

What should students bring?

<ul>
<li>Paint (don’t buy very cheap) Daler or Windor and Newton student quality oils-a selection including reds, blues, yellows, raw or burnt umber, and white</li>
<li>Brushes (bristle, not nylon) a selection of round and flat in various sizes incl some large size</li>
<li>Palette. Must be flat. Either tear- off pad or wooden traditional or a large smooth bathroom tile</li>
<li>Palette knife (metal, triangular blade)</li>
<li>Canvas - stretched, board or pad (don’t buy super cheap)</li>
<li>Turps</li>
<li>Cotton rags</li>
<li>Kitchen roll</li>
<li>Baby wipes</li>
<li>Glass jar with screw top</li>
<li>Liquin (‘fine detail’ if possible)</li>
<li>Masking tape</li>
<li>An apron or old shirt to protect your clothes</li>
<li>Paper clips or bulldog clips</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Beginners will be guided through a step-by-step process before creating their own paintings. Those who are more advanced will be prompted to discuss the progression of their work and pursue their goals. Having an iPad is useful as it allows you to curate albums of artwork by artists you admire and gather images from the internet.

Stable internet connection, a tablet or PC and ability to use ZOOM if the course moves online.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
