Description

A hands-on course in traditional upholstery techniques, suitable for all levels. Learners bring their own piece of furniture. New learners are asked to confirm the suitability of their project by emailing a photo of the item to Nicky at nickyhamilton99@gmail.com at least one week before the course begins.

What can students expect?

This practical course will equip you with the core skills to breathe new life into treasured family heirlooms. You’ll begin work on your project from the very first session.

As learning is based on individual projects and includes both beginners and more experienced learners, the pace of tuition may vary—so patience and a collaborative spirit are appreciated!

Please wear sensible clothing and sturdy shoes, as the work may involve dust from stripping furniture and loose tacks or staples on the floor. Our storage space is limited so we cannot accommodate large pieces (e.g. a sofa or chaise longue). All pieces MUST be taken home at the end of the course unless you have enrolled on the next course. Pieces left behind without prior agreement will be disposed of.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but there will be less time to complete the project.

Previous experience required?

No. Experience with hand or machine sewing would be beneficial.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol on a similar course or the “Upholster Summer School” to work on other projects. They may also attend an “Upholstery On Saturdays” workshop to complete a project.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Materials can be supplied by the tutor at a moderate cost or purchased elsewhere by learners. Top cover fabric and braid are also required.

Work set between sessions?

No, but if appropriate, learners can carry on at home should they wish.

What should students bring?

To the 1st session, please bring:

<li>A manageable piece of furniture, not sofas or chaise longues. Only bring top cover fabric to the first session if doing a very small piece of furniture.</li>
</ul>

Most tools will be available to use but you must bring:

<li>Tape measure</li>

<li>A mallet if you have one</li>
<li>An apron or old shirt to protect your clothes </li>
</ul>

Refunds and cancellations

Course Cancellations by Us

• If we cancel your course, your fees will be refunded in full.

• We cannot reimburse the cost of any materials you may have purchased.

Cancellations by You

• If you cancel 7 days or more before the course start date: Refund issued minus a 20% administration fee.

• If you cancel less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: No refund will be issued.

Transfers

• Transfers must be requested at least 7 days before the course start date.

• A 10% transfer fee applies.

• Transfers due to our cancellation of your original course are free of charge.

Illness and Absence

• No refunds are available for non-attendance due to sickness or ill health.

How Refunds Are Issued

• Refunds are returned via the original payment method:

• Booked online or by phone - Refund to the card used.

• Paid in person at Stoke Lodge - Please bring your payment card to the office.

Online Course Access

• Learners are responsible for ensuring they have suitable internet access and equipment before the course begins.

• No refunds will be issued due to technical issues with a learner’s own internet or computer.
