In this workshop we will examine some different perspectives on the nature of love. We will explore a range of forms of love discussed by Philosophers such as Erich Fromm, Plato and Simone de Beauvoir and consider how these can enrich and deepen our understanding.

Description

In this workshop we will examine some different perspectives on the nature of love. We will explore various forms of love discussed by Philosophers such as Erich Fromm, Plato and Simone de Beauvoir and consider how these can enrich and deepen our understanding.

What can students expect?

Some key questions we will discuss are….

What is love? 

How does an Ancient Greek notion of love compare to a modern day one? 

What are the meanings of Storge, Philia, Eros, Agape? Why does Fromm say that we are terrible at love?

The emphasis in this workshop will be on discussion and collaborative enquiry and the practical application of different ideas to our lives and concerns today.
