Neoclassism: Art in the age of Napoleon and Jane Austen

This course looks at the paintings, architecture and fashion to shed light on this exciting and colourful period. </span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Times New Roman&#34;,serif"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">At the time of the French revolution and Napoleon there was also a revolution in the world of art and fashion. What do the great neo-classical artists tell us about the world they lived in? Why do all the characters in Jane Austen books dress in such a distinctive way? This course looks at the work of David, Gros, Goya, Ingres, Vigée le Brun and others and firmly sets them into the context of the exciting and tumultuous world of early 19^th century Europe.  </span></span></span></p>
