'No place for ladies' – 19th century women and their military adventures

<p><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">The lives of six extraordinary women whose lives were intertwined with early 19^th century wars.</span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Times New Roman&#34;,serif"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">Wars may have been fought be male soldiers, but those men were always accompanied by an assortment of women in various roles. This course looks at the lives of six individual women to glimpse into the difficult and dangerous roles that they undertook. We will look at the careers of six fascinating women ranging from lowly soldiers’ wives to aristocrats. The course was inspired by reading the diary of a woman who served in the Russian cavalry in the Napoleonic wars. </span></span></span></p>
