The Crusades

<p><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">The story of the first three Crusades – why did so many men, women, and children leave their homes to travel to the dangerous lands of the east? How successful were they? What was the impact? </span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Times New Roman&#34;,serif"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">We travel back to the early medieval period – a time of knights and castles, bows and arrows, monks and nuns – to find out what inspired so many people to travel thousands of miles to attempt to carve out new kingdoms overseas. Who were they? What problems did they face? What were they hoping to achieve? Did they succeed in their aims? What was the impact on the lands they travelled to, and what were the long-term effects?</span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Times New Roman&#34;,serif"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">A fascinating and often overlooked period which deserves more attention. There are plenty of  people, ranging from rich kings to penniless peasants, whose lives we are able to follow as they attempt to make new lives for themselves far from home.</span></span></span></p>
