Description

Normans, Saxons and Vikings: a history of England in the years leading up to the turning point that was 1066.

What can students expect?

In the year when the Bayeux Tapestry is visiting the UK it seems appropriate to offer a course on the events of the time. England was in turmoil in the years before 1066 as rival Royal Houses struggled for control of England, interrupted from time-to-time by Viking raids. This course will provide a narrative history of personalities and events from the reign of Alfred the Great up to and including the Norman Conquest of 1066.

I describe my style as ‘informal lecture’. I aim to use pictures wherever possible, and I welcome interruptions, questions and digressions.

Refund processing
