What can students expect?

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">The 17th century is arguably the most important in the History of Britain as it saw the move from ‘medieval’ to ‘modern’ in a whole range of factors. The course will provide a narrative path through the reigns of James I and his son Charles I, and steer the student through the various political, social and religious ‘minefields’ that caused the civil war and led to the execution of the monarch. Throughout the course we will touch on a wide variety of aspects of daily life during these troubled times to help bring the period to life.

Teaching method/style?

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">I describe my style as ‘informal illustrated lecture’. I am always happy to be interrupted with questions which, hopefully, will lead to interesting digressions. I find that a narrative approach to History is the most accessible for students. History is all about people, and so making them come alive in class is important.
