Quando si parla di Italia non si può dimenticare l’Opera italiana, perché è in Italia che nasce e diventa famosa la canzone lirica. All’Italia sono legati i nomi di grandi compositori: Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini. Ascolteremo “arie” cantate da Luciano Pavarotti, Enrico Caruso, Renata Tebaldi. Parleremo dei grandi teatri, come la Scala di Milano, La Fenice di Venezia, l’Arena di Verona, il San Carlo di Napoli; e i grandi direttori d’orchestra, da Arturo Toscanini a Riccardo Muti.

When we talk about Italy we cannot forget the Italian Opera, because it is in Italy where the opera arias were born and became famous. The names of great composers are linked to Italy: Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini. We will listen to “arias” sung by Luciano Pavarotti, Enrico Caruso, Renata Tebaldi. We will talk about the great theatres, such as the Scala in Milan, La Fenice in Venice, the Arena in Verona, the San Carlo in Naples; and the great conductors, from Arturo Toscanini to Riccardo Muti.

What can students expect?

Una sessione dedicata all’Opera italiana. Gli studenti conosceranno la vita di Verdi e Puccini nel momento storico dell’Unità d'Italia. Ascolteremo alcune canzoni di opere più famose, farò conoscere agli studenti i maggiori maestri d’orchestra di quel periodo e ancora in vita. Con l’opera lirica in Italia nascono i primi teatri lirici, gli studenti conosceranno i primi teatri dedicati all’opera

A session dedicated to the Italian Opera. Students will learn about the life of Verdi and Puccini in the historical moment of the unification of Italy. We will listen to some arias from the most famous operas, I will introduce students to the major orchestra masters of that period and the ones still alive. The first opera houses were born with opera in Italy, students will get to know the first theatres dedicated to opera

Previous experience required?

Si, tutte le lezioni saranno tenute in lingua italiana. E’ richiesto quindi un ottimo livello di italiano.

Yes. all the lessons will be in Italian language. A very good level of Italian is required.
