In questo breve corso visiteremo l’Italia attraverso opere d’arte e le sue città. La prima sessione sarà dedicata a Caravaggio tra Napoli e Roma. Continua l’arte italiana con le donne pittrici con particolare attenzione a Artemisia Gentileschi. Non può mancare la scultura da Michelangelo alla Roma Barocca con Canova e Bernini. La quarta lezione sarà dedicata all’architettura dal Palladio (Vicenza), i teatri d’Opera (da Milano a Palermo) fino a Palazzo Civiltà (Roma). Ultima lezione Modigliani, Guttuso e il Futurismo. 
Gli argomenti saranno presentati con video e conversazione in classe. L'insegnante darà materiale da leggere. 

In this short course we will visit Italy through works of art and its cities. 
The first session will be dedicated to Caravaggio between Naples and Rome. The course continues with women painters with particular attention to Artemisia Gentileschi. You cannot miss the sculpture from Michelangelo to Baroque Rome with Canova and Bernini in the third lesson. The fourth lesson will be dedicated to architecture from Palladio (Vicenza), Theatres of Opera (from Milan to Palermo) up to Palazzo Civiltà (Rome). Last lesson Modigliani, Guttuso and Futurism. 

Topics will be presented with video and class conversation. The teacher will give material to read.

What can students expect?

Un percorso sull’arte italiana dal Caravaggio fino al Futurismo con Modigliani e Guttuso. Parleremo di architettura con Palladio e scultura con Michelangelo, Bernini e Canova, mi piace anche parlare di Artemisia Gentileschi, donna pittrice bravissima. Questa seconda parte di arte italiana ci porta nelle città di Vicenza, Roma, Napoli, Firenze, Palermo, Venezia, Milano e Sabbioneta. Gli studenti avranno del materiale da me preparato dove seguiranno la descrizione della lezione attraverso video e letture. Ci saranno conversazioni sull’opera o personaggio. Per questo corso si richiede una buona conoscenza della lingua italiana.

In this short course, held in Italian, learners will explore selected topics of Italian Art through tutor presentation, watching videos and conversation in groups and in class. Students will have some material prepared by me where they will follow the description of the lesson through videos and readings. 
Amongst the topics to be covered will be Baroc in Rome, Villas in Vicenza and Theaters of Opera in Italy

Previous experience required?

Si, la lezione sara' tenuta in lingua italiana. E’ richiesto quindi un ottimo livello di italiano.

Yes, a reasonably good knowledge of Italian is necessary for this course.
