Description

This course is for learners who have attended the September French for Beginners, and the January Continuation course.

What can students expect?

This French for Beginners Extension course will extend the range of vocabulary, knowledge of grammar, idioms, pronunciation, and cultural background knowledge

Late starters allowed?

Yes, as long as they join before week 2.

Please check with the tutor via Stoke Lodge before joining

Previous experience required?

Yes, completion of a ‘French for Beginners’ and Continuation course, or other similar basic course. Learners wishing to join this course need to have done at least app 50 hours of beginners French. Please note that this course is not suitable for complete beginners.

What is the progression route?

French Level 1 B, Part 1

Work set between sessions?

Yes. Some homework exercises will be set every week, in order to enable learners to consolidate what they have learned during the sessions.

What should students bring?

Pen & paper

An A4 ringbinder for handouts and photocopies

Teaching method/style?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active student interaction

- emphasis on speaking and listening skills

- also some reading and basic writing activities

- pair, small group and whole class work

- role play

- use of realia, pictures and authentic material

- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate
