Description

Learn how to use a sewing machine, how to plan for a project, cut out, sew seams, apply linings, apply zips, etc.

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge.

What can students expect?

Learners will receive instruction in using a sewing machine, hand stitching techniques, pressing methods, and pattern reading skills. 

This course caters to mixed abilities; learners will select their own projects and progress at their individual pace.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

No.

What is the progression route?

Other sewing courses.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. For new learners, there will be a charge of £1 to go towards the cost of a pin cushion payable directly to the tutor at the first session. All learners will also need to purchase materials and sundries for their personal projects.

Work set between sessions?

Yes. Learners are encouraged to continue working on their project at home if possible.

What should students bring?

<li>A piece of fabric, 15cms by 30cms- if you are new to the course</li>
<li>Scissors</li>
<li>Hand sewing needles and thread</li>
<li>Tape measure</li>
<li>Seam un-picker</li>
<li>Pins</li>
<li>A pencil and note pad for note taking </li>
</ul>

Sewing machines are available to use but you may wish to bring your own.

The course is entirely practical and will include demonstrations of various techniques.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

 

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
