Description

A two-day course perfect for those wanting to learn how to make their own trousers from scratch.

What can students expect?

This hands-on course will guide you through creating a trouser block tailored to your measurements. Following a step-by-step process, you will:

<ul>
<li>Learn how to take accurate body measurements</li>
<li>Use these measurements to draft a trousers block on tissue paper</li>
<li>Turn the block into a trousers pattern with added seam allowances</li>
<li>Make a toile (prototype) from unbleached calico to test the pattern. Where necessary, you will make adjustments for a good fit. Some sewing experience is desirable for sewing the toile</li>
</ul>

By the end of the course, you will have a custom fitting trouser block and the skills to draft and fit trousers with confidence. Although you will produce a women's trouser block, the knowledge gained will be transferable to men's clothing.

Late starters allowed?

No. This is a short course, and you may miss key instruction if you do not attend in full.

Previous experience required?

Yes, some sewing experience is necessary, especially when creating the toile. You also need to understand how to use a commercial sewing pattern.

What is the progression route?

Learners can enrol on one of the sewing courses at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Possibly. Fee includes materials, block and toile. If you already have a pattern maker from a previous Stoke Lodge beginners' course, there are no extra costs. If not, one can be purchased from the tutor at cost. Please email Stoke Lodge at least 2 weeks before the course starts if you need a pattern maker.

Work set between sessions?

No, but learners may choose to continue their project at home and may need to complete or further develop their work once the course has finished.

Teaching method/style?

Group instruction, individual support, and practical demonstrations.

<li>Sewing machine, instruction manual and accessories. Machines are available if needed</li>
<li>Usual sewing kit for making the toile</li>

Course Cancellations and Refunds

If we cancel your course

<li>You will receive a full refund of course fees.</li>
<li>We are not responsible for any additional costs, such as materials already purchased.</li>

If you cancel

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<ul>
<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>
</ul>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days’ notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
