Description

A welcoming and practical sewing course for learners of all abilities, where participants can work on individual projects, develop their skills at their own pace, and build confidence with supportive tutor guidance.

What can students expect?

This practical course will introduce you to the essentials of sewing, from learning how to use a sewing machine and understanding different fabrics to completing your own sewing projects. You will develop key skills such as planning a project, reading patterns, cutting fabric accurately, sewing seams, adding linings, and inserting zips. Depending on your experience and interests, you may create items such as cushions, bags, or garments. Suitable for all skill levels, the course allows you to work at your own pace, with guidance and support from an experienced tutor throughout.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Previous experience required?

No.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol for the following term or enrol on other sewing courses at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners need to supply own patterns, fabrics, and sewing equipment. In addition, £1 cash payable to Marilyn for pin cushion resources (new learners only).

Work set between sessions?

Yes. Learners are encouraged to continue working on their project at home if possible.

What should students bring?

<li>A piece of fabric, 15cms by 30cms- if you are new to the course</li>
<li>Scissors </li>
<li>Hand sewing needles and thread </li>
<li>Tape measure </li>
<li>Seam un-picker </li>
<li>Pins</li>
<li>A pencil and note pad for note taking </li>
</ul>

Sewing machines are available, but you are welcome to bring your own; if so, please also bring the instruction manual. Please let us know in advance if you need to borrow a machine.

Teaching method/style?

Demonstrations and one-on-one support are provided, allowing learners to work at their own pace on their chosen project designs.

Course Cancellations and Refunds

If we cancel your course

<li>We are not responsible for any additional costs, such as materials already purchased.</li>

If you cancel

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<ul>
<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>
</ul>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
