Description

An enriching summer school for beginner weavers, helping participants develop their weaving skills, learn rigid heddle loom setup and techniques, and create woven cotton projects such as placemats or a table runner.

What can students expect?

During this summer school, you will learn how to set up and use a rigid heddle loom while creating woven cotton placemats or a table runner. Through hands-on practice and tutor guidance, you will develop the skills and confidence to continue weaving independently at home.

Day 1: Learn to warp, wind, and thread the loom, with guidance on loom setup and achieving good tension.

Day 2: Begin weaving, developing confidence with shuttle techniques for neat edges and learning hem stitch for decorative and secure finishing.

Day 3: Complete your project and explore simple finishing techniques, including washing, sewing in ends, and removing your work from the loom ready to take home. 

This course takes place at the St Paul's Learning Centre.

No, as learners may miss key instructions.

Previous experience required?

No.

What is the progression route?

Learners can enrol on a follow-on course to learn how to weave with wool, creating a scarf while exploring additional techniques such as using pick-up sticks

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners supply own yarn. The tutor will advise on what to buy before the start of the course.

Work set between sessions?

No.

What should students bring?

<li>Comfy shoes (there is a bit of walking as part of the set-up process)</li>
<li>A notebook or phone to make personal notes</li>
<li>Reading glasses if worn </li>
<li>Lunch and refreshment. There is a café on site if preferred</li>

Teaching method/style?

Sessions are hands-on, including loom setup, yarn selection, technique practice, and creating finished pieces.

None. Looms are provided for the course.

If you cancel

<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>

Refund processing

<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>

Transfers

<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
