Description

A welcoming and practical dressmaking course for learners of all abilities, where participants can work on individual projects, develop their skills at their own pace, and build confidence with supportive tutor guidance.

What can students expect?

This practical course will help you develop the core skills needed to create and construct garments, from selecting patterns and fabrics to assembling pieces and applying finishing details such as zips and pockets. You will begin work on your own project from the first session. Learners who are new to the course will start by making a drawstring bag, allowing the tutor to assess their current skill level and provide appropriate guidance and support. As learners work on individual projects at different skill levels, the pace of tuition may vary, so patience and a supportive approach are appreciated.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Previous experience required?

Yes. Learners should have basic machine sewing skills.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol for the following term or enrol on other sewing courses at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners need to supply own patterns, fabrics, and sewing equipment. 

In addition, £1.50 in cash payable to Lorraine for drawstring bag resources (new learners only).

Work set between sessions?

Learners are encouraged to practise sewing at home.

What should students bring?

<li>Tape measure </li>
<li>Seam un-picker </li>
<li>Pins</li>
<li>Pencil and note pad are useful for note taking. </li>
</ul>

In addition, at the 1st session you will be given advice to purchase patterns, fabric and additional equipment. Sewing machines are available, but you are welcome to bring your own; if so, please also bring the instruction manual. Please let us know in advance if you need to borrow a machine.

Teaching method/style?

Demonstrations and one-on-one support are provided, allowing learners to work at their own pace on their chosen project designs.

Course Cancellations and Refunds

If we cancel your course

If you cancel

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<ul>
<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>
</ul>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days' notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
