Description

Come and spend an experiential day listening to and exploring Bernstein’s West Side Story and how we respond to it including background and discussion.

No previous knowledge needed – all are welcome.

What can students expect?

These classes arise from the conviction that music can and should be accessible to all. I seek to facilitate a deepening in our intuitive response to music as well as to support the group in exploring the cultural and historical background to music in a way that I hope to be approachable and clear. People come to the classes from different backgrounds – some are completely new to ‘music appreciation’ while others may sing in choirs or be experienced listeners. What we share is a love of music and a willingness to learn from each other’s perspectives. The sessions will include cultural/ theoretical background, musical examples, group/ paired discussion, and more. Come and join us!

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move ONLINE if necessary.

What is the progression route?

Suggestions will be made for further listening/ research.

Are there any extra costs?

No. Costs of recorded music are included in course fee.

Work set between sessions?

Optional follow up suggestions are given.

What should students bring?

Pen and paper.

Stable internet connection, a tablet or PC and ability to use ZOOM if course has to transfer online.

Group discussion, historical/ cultural background, pair work, live musical examples.

Refunds and cancellations

· If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.

· If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.

· If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.

· Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.

· We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health. If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details. When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
