This course explores the dynamic world of Cubism, Abstraction, and Surrealism, examining the pioneering works of artists such as Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Mark Rothko, and Salvador Dalí, and the ideas that continue to influence modern and contemporary art.

What can students expect?

Join us for an immersive course delivered through a PowerPoint presentation and informative handouts. Engage in lively discussions and develop your skills and knowledge.

You will study the works of Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Mark Rothko, and Salvador Dalí, analysing their approaches to form, colour, and composition. The course will examine how Cubism deconstructed perspective, how Abstraction moved beyond representation, and how Surrealism embraced the subconscious and dreamlike imagery. Through lectures and discussions, participants will gain insights into the cultural and historical contexts that influenced these movements, as well as their lasting impact on contemporary art.

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Work set between sessions?

Learners will be given a reading list and links to websites for additional reading and research. This is to enhance their knowledge and is optional.

What should students bring?

A notebook to take notes and a folder for the handouts.

PowerPoint presentation, handouts, discussions, analysis of artwork.
