Description

This course explores the rich and symbolic world of Pre-Raphaelite art, examining the movement's detailed and imaginative works, the literary and natural influences that inspired them, and the ideas that shaped its lasting impact on British art and culture.

What can students expect?

Join us for an immersive course featuring close visual analysis of key Pre-Raphaelite works, supported by a PowerPoint presentation and informative handouts. Engage in lively discussions while exploring themes of symbolism, narrative, nature, and beauty.

You will examine artistic techniques, including the use of colour and intricate detail, and investigate connections to literature, gender, and Victorian cultural contexts. Through lectures and discussion, participants will develop informed interpretations and a deeper understanding of the movement’s artistic and cultural significance.

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Learners can enrol on other Art History courses at Stoke Lodge.

Work set between sessions?

Learners will be given a reading list and links to websites for additional reading and research. This is to enhance their knowledge and is optional.

What should students bring?

A notebook to take notes and a folder to put handouts in.

PowerPoint presentations, handouts, discussions and analysis of artworks.
