Description

This course explores the rich and diverse world of East Asian art, examining the artistic traditions, cultural exchanges, and contemporary movements that have shaped and continue to influence the visual culture of China, Japan, and Hong Kong.

What can students expect?

Join us for an immersive course delivered through a PowerPoint presentation and informative handouts. Engage in lively discussions and develop your skills and knowledge.

You will study the refined craftsmanship of Chinese bronzes and jade carvings, the delicate beauty of Japanese ink wash paintings, and the dynamic fusion of Eastern and Western influences in Hong Kong’s art scene. The course will highlight key figures such as Ai Weiwei and Yayoi Kusama, examining their impact on modern artistic expression. You will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural, philosophical, and historical contexts that shaped these artistic traditions, as well as their lasting influence on global art.

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Learners can enrol on other Art History courses at Stoke Lodge.

Work set between sessions?

Learners will be given a reading list and links to websites for additional reading and research. This is to enhance their knowledge and is optional.

What should students bring?

A notebook to take notes and a folder for the handouts.

Teaching method/style?

PowerPoint presentation, handouts, discussions, analysis of artwork.
