This course offers the opportunity to design and create your own stained-glass artwork. Beginners will be guided through all the stages involved in making a small leaded or copper foiled panel. They will learn cutting and shaping glass to size, leading, soldering, cementing, and finishing.

Description

This course offers the opportunity to design and create your own stained-glass artwork, and is suitable for beginners. Fee includes classroom sundries; learners can purchase coloured glass, lead and solder from the tutor or from a local supplier.

What can students expect?

Beginners will be guided through all the stages involved in making a simple small leaded or copperfoiled panel, from design through to cutting, leading or foiling, soldering and finishing techniques. Improvers will also be accomodated and can plan individual projected with tutor support and learn new techniques.

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

This is a beginners course but improvers wanting to gain more experience will also be accommodated.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol on the same course to develop skills in design and making. They may also enrol on the Summer School. After 3 terms of Beginners courses, learners can progress onto the Intermediates level.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners need to purchase coloured glass and lead for their project from the tutor or local stained-glass suppliers. Materials costs may vary depending on the scale of the project, but for an A4 sized panel learners can expect to pay £30 approx.

Work set between sessions?

Between classes, learners can do research on the internet or by work on their sketches and designs. They can also order materials from a local supplier if they want to buy their glass directly. There is no homework set specifically.

What should students bring?

<li>Sturdy shoes, no open toe sandals</li>
<li>Coloured art materials if you have any for design. Bring what you have, no need to purchase any especially</li>
<li>Two or three different ideas- these could be pictures, original doodles or sketches, postcards, pictures from magazines, photos, art books anything to act as a starting point for your design</li>

Teaching method/style?

Formal teaching and demonstrations. Individual support and learning checks and group discussions, books, photos and samples for study.

Equipment and tools provided. The tutor can advise you if you choose to purchase any of your own equipment. Fee includes classroom sundries (e.g. paper, masking tape, tracing paper, glass cleaner, kiln shelf paper, two strips of solder, fluxes, white spirit, patinas, glass paints, etc).

Refunds and cancellations

<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
