Course description

<p>This course is designed to provide essential knowledge and understanding of health and safety for all employees working in any business sector. It gives employees an understanding of their responsibilities when it comes to Health & Safety, helping to prevent accidents and ill health. Completing the Level 2 Health and Safety course gives an all round overview of general health and safety in the workplace including how to minimise incidents, prevent accidents and reduce near-misses. This course looks at many different aspects of health and safety including the workplace and equipment used, manual handling and ergonomics.</p>

Course outcomes

<p>By the end of the course you will be able to: Understand roles and duties for health, safety and welfare in the workplace. Define the terms hazard, risk, accident, near miss and risk assessment Describe the steps involved in a risk assessment Explain the common hazards and effects of workplace accidents, near misses and ill health in the workplace Describe how risk assessment can reduce accidents, near misses and ill health Describe examples of risk controls for common workplace hazards Know the procedures for responding to accidents, near misses and ill-health in the workplace</p>

Is this course suitable for me?

<p>This qualification is aimed at employees and enables them to work safely and recognise and deal with hazards in the workplace. It also provides learners with knowledge of the basic health and safety practices essential in the workplace. No previous experience is required but this course does require a minimum of Level 1 English (or equivalent).</p>

What do I need to bring?

<p>All materials will be supplied but a pen and paper is advisable.</p>

How will I learn?

<p>You will attend a group session and experience tutor demonstration and carry out some verbal and written exercises.</p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

<p>Progress is monitored by practical work and by tutor observation, and there is a 20 question multiple choice exam taken at the end of the day.</p>

Are there any additional costs?

<p>There are no additional costs.</p>

What qualification will I get?

<p>HABC Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace.</p>

What will I be able to do after this course?

<p>Food safety in Catering (HABC Level 2)</p>
