Course description

<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">English for Beginners is a course for literate learners who would like to develop their basic listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills.  With the support of tutors, learners can explore English culture and build their communication skills </span></span></p>

Course outcomes

<p><span style="font-size:10pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Times New Roman&#34;,serif"><em><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">By the end of the course, you will be able to:</span></span></em></span></span></p>

<li><span style="font-size:10pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Times New Roman&#34;,serif"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">recognise letters, sounds and basic vocabulary </span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:10pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Times New Roman&#34;,serif"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">learn about important festivals and days in the UK cultural calendar.</span></span></span></li>

Is this course suitable for me?

<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">Learners should have basic literacy skills to benefit from this course. </span></span></p>

What do I need to bring?

<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">Lexical notebook, learner file, stationery (including highlighters) and water bottle</span></span><em><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">.</span></span></em></p>

How will I learn?

<p><span style="font-size:10pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Times New Roman&#34;,serif"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">You will learn in a classroom, working individually, in pairs and small groups.  A variety of power point slides, audio recordings, videos, pictures, props (everyday items), handouts, and ipads will be used to support different learning styles. </span></span></span></p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

<p><span style="font-size:10pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Times New Roman&#34;,serif"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">You will be assessed in four areas:  listening and speaking activities and reading and writing tasks. </span></span></span></p>

Are there any additional costs?

<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">There are no additional costs.</span></span></p>

What qualification will I get?

<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">This is a non-accredited community learning course and therefore no qualification will be obtained.</span></span></p>

What will I be able to do after this course?

<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif">Learners can join the Main language café for conversational English or work towards an ESOL 1 qualification.  </span></span></p>
